LP Dumoulin blazes the field in Pinty’s Toronto practice

The defending champion marveled on the streets of Toronto on Friday

LP Dumoulin set the quickest time during practice for the Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto at Exhibition Place.

Dumoulin’s No.47 Weathertech/Bellemare Dodge found speed late setting a time of 1:16.267 seconds (82.841 mph) around the 1.74-mile street course at the end of the one-hour session.

The Trois-Rivieres, Quebec driver’s best finish on the Streets of Toronto is a runner-up finish in 2017. Dumoulin, fresh off his 100th career start last week at Chaudiere, will be looking to score his first win of 2019.

“I mean, it was a fast lap, but we had to work for it,” Dumpoulin said. “We took the car apart in the winter to make it better and we’re even better from Mosport. There are a couple of things that we have learned over the years that we put into this that worked and there are alwsys some things that don’t work.

“It’s practice of course, so it’s fun but still a bit of work to be done.”

Marc-Antoine Camirand was second quick with a time of 1:16.933 (82.123). Camirand will look to redeem himself after a heartbreaking accident in 2017.

2016 Toronto winner Alex Tagliani was third quick after practice with a lap time of 1:16.947 (82.108). 2017 Series Champion Alex Labbé and Gary Klutt rounded out the top five.

Anthony Simone and J.F Dumoulin were sixth and seventh respectively.

Peter Klutt, Kevin Lacroix and Donald Theetge completed the top ten.

Three-time Toronto winner Andrew Ranger was originally listed as second-quick with a time of 1:16.853 (82.209). However, after being assessed a penalty by NASCAR all of Ranger’s lap times have been disallowed.

Qualifying for the Pinty’s Grand Prix of Toronto will commence at 5:20 p.m. Fans can catch all the qualifying action live with no geographic restrictions on Fanschoice.TV.

The green flag will be dropping Saturday at 5:30 p.m, fans can tune in live on Fanschoice in the U.S and on TSN.ca in Canada.
