Jason Hathaway returns to chase NASCAR Pinty’s championship

The nine-time race winner is returning to chase the championship that has eluded him …

Jason Hathaway’s resume still has a glaring omission.

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series championship.

After a two-year hiatus from the Canadian national NASCAR touring series, the 42-year-old from Appin, Ontario is returning to chase the title with Ed Hakonson Racing.

The 2015 runner-up and winner of nine Pinty’s races spent the past two years spending increased time with his family and running a part-time Pro Late Model schedule with EHR. Meanwhile, Hakonson fielded a car for NASCAR Modified standout Cole Powell to the tune of one victory and a fourth-place championship finish.

Now Hathaway is back in the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro.

“I still have the competitiveness burning inside of me to win races in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series,” Hathaway said in a press release. “I know I can get the job done in the seat and with my team. We are a close group of hard-working guys and we all decided it was time for us to run full time together again.”

The effort will be sponsored by Kubota Canada.

“We are excited to have Jason back behind the wheel for the 2019 season,” said Hakonson. “He really showed his talent over the years winning races and always representing our brands well. We are proud to be able to field a full time NASCAR Pinty’s Series team again this season and are looking forward to flying the Kubota colors.”

The 2019 NASCAR Pinty’s Series is made up of 13 events across Canada from Nova Scotia to Alberta. The season kicks off at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on May 18th and 19th.
