CARS Tour Postpones Southern National Opener

The Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) has postponed the season opening race for the CARS Late Model Stock and CARS Super Late Model Tour to Sunday, April 3rd at 4pm.

The event, which will take place at Southern National Motorsports Park, will kick off the second season for the CARS Tour.  Last March, the series opened at Southern National to bitter cold conditions.  This year, with rain in the forecast in Kenly, North Carolina for Friday and Saturday, the series proactively made the move to push the race to Sunday.  It is a situation similar to what happened at Hickory last November, when the series moved its finale up a day due to weather.

As for Southern National itself, Sunday racing is not new to the track.  Last year, three of the track’s biggest races were moved to Sunday afternoons, one of which being a postponement due to weather.  The Jerry Moody Memorial was run on a Sunday afternoon in May, the day after the Sprint All-Star race at Charlotte, and won by Matt McCall.  The championship finale was moved to a Sunday afternoon for the second consecutive year with the doubleheader swept by Lee Pulliam in one of the most thrilling races in the track’s history.  Lee Pulliam also scored the victory in the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic, which was run on a warm Sunday afternoon in November.
