ASA and Cordele set Speedfest dates

For the 15th consecutive year, Speedfest will kick off the Super Late Model season in the United States on Saturday January 24 at Cordele Motor Speedway.

The event has been a points race for the Southern Super Series the past two years but the format will return to a non-points exhibition co-sanctioned by the CRA Super Series as it was for its vast majority of existence.

In addition to the 250-lap Super Late Model feature, race day will also include a 100-lap Pro Late Model non-points exhibition sanctioned by the CRA JEGS All-Stars Tour.

The history of Speedfest as a season-opening event for straight-rail Late Models dates back to 2005, where the event previously held at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida and then Lanier International Speedway from 2009 to 2011.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.
