Ryan Luza Wins PLM-WS Finale over Champion Conner Jones

Jason Reasin

Ryan Luza capped-off a statement week in the Pro Late Model World Series of Asphalt with a victory in the Hart to Heart 100 on Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway. Meanwhile, Conner Jones finished runner-up to claim the Speedweeks championship in the division.

Luza took the lead on lap four and led the rest of the way to claim his second win.

“It was a really hard race tonight,” Luza told Racing America. “I didn’t really have anyone behind me but Conner. I was worried some of the people behind us were saving more than we were, but that didn’t end up being the case. We had the best two cars, and I just needed five or 10 laps to get away from him. It was hard to hold him off on those restarts.”

Jones finished no worse than fourth over the six races and claimed the championship by 32 points over Luza and Hunter Wright.

“We’ve been going after this for two years,” said Jones to Racing America. “We came runner-up both years. This year, we just decided to come here and go for the championship. Play it smart, don’t wreck the car, get consistent finishes. We came out with a couple of wins, some top threes and another top five.

“This is definitely one of the marquee things I’ve done. This is probably the biggest championship I’ve ever won.”
