Over a dozen southeastern short tracks announced an update to a July 31 rules bulletin on Friday afternoon regarding weight penalties for offsetting chassis that will go into effect this weekend.

A tolerance of 1/8″ will be permitted when it comes to chassis guidelines but wheel spacers can be used to correct the distance without being assessed a weight penalty.

Rather than having teams add 50 lbs. of right side weight to chassis that are offset, only 25 lbs. will be added, which is the same penalty for organizations that use two pieces of steel for tubing or use an improperly angled steering box.

The following tracks are enforcing the weight penalty rules:

  • Ace Speedway
  • Anderson Motor Speedway
  • Caraway Speedway
  • Dominion Raceway
  • Florence Motor Speedway
  • Greenville-Pickens Speedway
  • Hickory Motor Speedway
  • Kingsport Speedway
  • Langley Speedway
  • Motor Mile Speedway
  • South Boston Speedway
  • Tri-County Speedway
  • Wake County Speedway

Extra attention was centered on Late Model Stock chassis following Peyton Sellers’s victory at South Boston on May 29, with a subsequent investigation revealing that several teams had cars not in compliance with track rules.

The weight penalties are set to remain in effect for the rest of 2021 before Late Model Stock teams are required to fix the chassis issues ahead of the 2022 season.

Any driver with an improper chassis will be disqualified if they do not have the mandated addition weight.
