The Late Model Stock community will be out in full force on Saturday for the return of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 following a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over 70 drivers have filed an entry to compete in the 300-lap event at Martinsville, with the list of entries featuring a handful of NASCAR drivers along with seasoned veterans from tracks in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.
Headlining the entry list is current NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points leader Peyton Sellers, who has clinched track championships at both South Boston Speedway and Dominion Raceway. A victory for Sellers on Saturday would be his first in 14 appearances at Martinsville.
Sellers is also currently tied with two-time CARS Tour champion Bobby McCarty atop the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown standings. McCarty took the first race at South Boston before a ninth-place run at Langley Speedway tightened up the points battle between him, Sellers, Kaden Honeycutt and Jared Fryar.
Other notable entries include two-time ValleyStar Credit Union 300 winner Timothy Peters and ARCA Menards Series regular Corey Heim, who missed out on a victory in his debut appearance back in 2018 when scoring rules placed him behind C.E. Falk III following the last green-white-checkered attempt.
On-track activity for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 begins on Friday afternoon with four hours of practice leading up to qualifying during the evening. The top two qualifiers from Friday transfer into the main event, with the pole winner receiving $5,000.
The remaining 38 positions on the 40-car will be determined by four heat races consisting of 25 laps. As with the most recent running back in 2019, there will be no last chance qualifier for competitors to fall back on.
Three segments separate the 200-lap feature, with the first two consisting of 75 laps apiece and the final being 50 circuits. Claiming a segment victory results in a $1,000 bonus while the paycheck for winning the ValleyStar Credit Union totals $32,000.
