NASCAR Hires Joey Dennewitz for Regional, Touring Role

NASCAR has hired longtime agency executive Joey Dennewitz to serve as Managing Director or Weekly and Touring Series.

Dennewitz has spent the past 13 years at Spire Sports + Entertainment in numerous capacities and most recently as Chief of Strategic Initiatives. According to a NASCAR release, he will report to NASCAR’s senior VP of Racing Development and Strategy Ben Kennedy with oversight over the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, working out of the sanctioning body’s office in Uptown Charlotte.

Per the release:

“Dennewitz hails from Akron, Ohio and has been in racing for most his life. He began racing go-karts as a child and worked his way up to Allison Legacy cars and late models at Mansfield Speedway. Dennewitz then completed his education at the University of Akron with a degree in Communications. From there he worked several positions in communications and public relations before joining Spire Sports + Entertainment in 2010 and working his way up to Chief of Strategic Initiatives. One of the key initiatives Dennewitz helped shepherd at Spire Holdings was NASCAR’s debut at Knoxville Raceway and the return of NASCAR to the Milwaukee Mile in 2023.”

His expansive history at Spire will be valuable as it operates Track Enterprises, a group that promotes NASCAR and ARCA events in addition to the ASA STARS National Tour, Midwest Tour and Champion Racing Association.

NASCAR has worked in recent years to forge closer relationships with short track entities it doesn’t own, like with CARS Tour, which now has a presence on the NASCAR Roots website and even Superstar Racing Experience.

The accomplishments most recently completed by Dennewitz will translate over to NASCAR and its respective series directors as it works towards future schedules as well.
