For the better part of the three decades, the Edwards Brothers, Greg and Danny Jr. have defined Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia
Brenden Queen and Connor Hall have made their marks over the years too, but they are both racing full-time in CARS Tour this season, and the Edwards immediately reminded everyone that the Late Model Stock division runs through their bloodline with six championship apiece.
Both Edwards won the two Twin 50s on opening night at the Virginia bullring on Saturday night. Greg was the opener while Danny won the second ahead of Greg. It would not be the first time that the brothers would decide the championship between the two with Greg winning over Danny in 1998 and Danny over Greg in 2008.
“I’m ready for it,” Danny said in Victory Lane of the potential duel with his brother this summer. “It feels good to be back in the game.”
Greg won the first 50 lapper from the pole by a significant margin over Mark Wertz and Ryley Music. Wertz is a five-time champion himself and could play a factor based on his speed Saturday but he didn’t quite have enough for Greg in the day cap.
Greg won three races last season, the biggest threat to Hall in 2023, and made the first statement of the season.
“Yeah, it was pretty good,” Greg said. “Ryley (Music) and Mark were good and pushed us hard. Hopefully I didn’t push it too hard in this first race so we have enough for this second one.”
Langley races feature eight car inverts in these Twin 50s and Greg could never get the track position over Danny.
