SWANSBORO, NC – Maddy Ryan Mulligan says she is not concerned about American Racer tires in spite of an incident that happened for teammate Justin Carroll at Dominion Raceway on Saturday.

Mulligan is making her first career start at Carteret County Speedway in Sunday’s Labor Day Classic and her first start on American Racer tires.  On Saturday night, teammate Justin Carroll wrecked after a tire failure on Dominion’s McCreary branded American Racer tires.

“Not particularly concerned just due to the fact that, coming from a lot of the other racers here, they haven’t had issues like that on the American Racer tires,” Mulligan said.  “Yes, they are McCrearys.  American Racers are the same thing.  I’m not too worried about it.”

Mulligan has gotten help from Chris Burns, a two-time Carteret County Speedway winner.  She says he told her the tires have held up well at Carteret County Speedway.

“Chris Burns has helped me a lot,” Mulligan said.  “He stated that these tires actually get better the longer they run.  So, I’m actually looking forward to it.  It’s going to be different just because they are a different tire compound.  I really don’t have any concerns.”

Justin Carroll said after his wreck he didn’t expect Mulligan to run into any tire problems since the race at Carteret County Speedway is shorter in distance (60 laps) and because the track isn’t as fast.  Mulligan expressed the same sentiments.

“I mean, I agree,” Mulligan said.  “Dominion is a much quicker racetrack.  Stuff like that, it can happen at any time at any racetrack.  We’ll have to see what happens tonight.  No worries though.”

Mulligan has been racing at East Carolina Motor Speedway and South Boston Speedway, but Carteret County Speedway is most similar to her home track at Langley Speedway.

“I’m expecting to do fairly well,” Mulligan stated.  “From looking at the track, Carteret is very similar to Langley and I ran at Langley for four years.  I have the same type of experience.  I’m very excited.  Looking for a top three finish.”
