Jeff Oakley is not your typical NASCAR Whelen All-American Series driver, he doesn’t have aspirations of Cup Series glory, he “has racing in his blood” after years of his family running moonshine deep in the south. Oakley, the winner of the Late Model feature during the Comserve Memorial Day Classic didn’t start racing until the age of 27 and now at age 46, is in his prime at the new “gem of the commonwealth.”

Oakley, winner of six poles so far this season, is an owner-driver enjoying it as he has been for his entire career but gives a large amount of the credit to his pit crew.

“My guys put me in a great position every week, they work really hard and it shows, being able to put the No. 11 on pole week in and week out.”

That statement is only a small part of the seemingly endless praise Oakley has for his crew.

Oakley says he enjoys being an owner-driver because he has the ability to “spend time with my family while also racing regardless of the outcome, having my family around me at the track, helping with the car allows us all to share the experience and it’s just a real fun time.”

Oakley has aspirations of a track championship at what he calls a “beautiful top-notch facility.” and never gets deterred from that goal no matter what goes on, saying, “We race here every week, we know we have a lot of chances at getting it done, if we don’t perform well, we load it up, go home and see what we did wrong and come back the next race and hope we can fix it and improve.”

Oakley certainly has the correct mindset, saying, “We come out here and don’t let anything get us down and regardless of how we finish, we just keep going.”
