SOUTH BOSTON, VA – Shortly after scoring his first win of the night at South Boston Speedway, Matt Bowling doubled up and performed the sweep – adding to narrow his points lead in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship.

After Bowling drew a six for the invert, Bobby McCarty led the field to green for the second of two twin 75 lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at South Boston.

Bowling, the current track and National championship points leader, had no problem getting to the front or staying in front as he quickly grabbed the lead, never surrendering it.  Even after a competition caution came on lap 55, Bowling continued to pull away.

Bowling, extended his already large lead over Peyton Sellers in the South Boston points standings and extended his National points lead with his 10th victory of the 2016 season as he hunts for a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship.

“My guys did a great job today, we hit on something right after the first practice today,” Bowling said in victory lane.  “This thing was pretty good all day, it was a big, big night for us.”

Bowling knows the victories keep his title chances alive after his main national championship rival, Keith Rocco, scored a victory on Wednesday night and cut into Bowling’s lead.

“It definitely keeps us in the running, coming out here and sweeping the twin races,” Bowling said about his national title chances.  “Especially after Keith Rocco won on Wednesday night, at least we still have a chance and that’s all we can ask for.”
