American Racer released a statement on Tuesday responding to an article that appeared on Short Track Scene, saying they are looking into what caused Justin Carroll’s tire to disintegrate on Saturday night.

Carroll was involved in a frightening crash when a McCreary branded American Racer tire suddenly disintegrated, in his words, sending him into the wall.  He was physically okay, though a little score after the incident.  American Racer is investigating what caused the crash.

“As in any situation such as this, we must glean the facts from all possible sources, including the tire assembly, the race team, track officials, other competitors, and a thorough analysis of the residual track condition, etc,” American Racer’s statement said in part.  “In the next few days we have been assured that we will be provided the opportunity to examine the tire and wheel assembly. Quite often in the racing world we have found in the 100 + years of our company’s existence, initial speculation as to the cause is found to be incorrect.”

American Racer has a proven, successful track record of providing quality tires in dirt racing as well as in the West Coast and Northeast.  In the Southeast, the company has been scrutinized intensely after a series of tire failures in a CARS Tour race at Orange County, which resulted in the CARS Tour switching to Hoosier tires.

In the Orange County race, many of the teams who had tire failures admitted to starting the race below the recommended minimum air pressure.

American Racer tires are also used at Carteret County Speedway.  Carteret County has had no documented problems with American Racer tires.
