This is just what Jade Avedisian does.
She wins, usually very quickly, and way ahead of schedule. She won expeditiously in Micro Sprints, in making the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals A-Main and in the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series. Then the 19-year-old transitioned to pavement and quickly won in a CARS Pro Late Model Tour race and now won in a Super Late Model in just her second ever start in the division.
And it wasn’t just that the Clovis, California native won in a Super Late Model but she did it in the World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway against a field of cars that is preparing to run the ASA STARS National Tour race on Tuesday.
She did it by making the winning pass on Casey Roderick five laps into the race, and after passing Spencer Davis after their scuffle the night before, all a statement given where she is in her development. Not that she was overly excited about it, because her mind, this is just business and she genuinely expects to be winning because it’s what she does.
For example, how cool was this win, Jade?
“This is definitely pretty cool,” she said steely. “Um, it’s just another thing I kind of get to check off but tonight’s already done and I’ll focus on the rest of the week now.”
Again, it’s not that she doesn’t care or that it’s downplaying accomplishment but she expected to win and now it’s on to the next goal.
“Honestly, I feel like I had a lot of confidence coming in into this week and I know how good the team ran here last year with this car,” she said. “I’ve said I walked into this week with a lot of confidence and I knew if I did my job, there would be opportunities to win, so I feel like we did that I keep saying I’m just focused on what’s next and will go into Tuesday.”
Avedisian posted the sixth fastest time in qualifying but inherited the third starting spot by virtue of an eight car invert. Roderick started from the pole and his Rette Jones Racing No. 30 just didn’t have enough to hold off the Wilson Motorsports No. 30.
“You know, once everyone’s tires get hot and the air pressures come up, the car changed,” Roderick said. “Our car changed to the tight side, and theirs just got better at turning through the center of the corner and keeping their momentum up, so that’s what we need to work on for Tuesday.
“I’m proud of all these guys at Rette Jones Racing. This has been a lot of fun.”
When asked about his race, Davis joked that he wasn’t as interesting since he didn’t make contact with Avedisian like what happened the night before, but liked his car.
“I need this ASA race to roll around so we can roll out GMS Race Cars 007 and go put it on them,” Davis said. “This car right here, it’s a car we ran good with all year last year but it’s not our A-Game stuff. We’re growing our program, getting there.
“There’s a couple things that are lacking and I think the new car has a lot of what we’re missing.”
Again, Avedisian isn’t overly emotional, one way or the other approaching Tuesday.
“It gives me a little confidence, I guess,” Avedisian said. “I’m sure there are going to be a few more really good teams show up on Tuesday and I’ll need to step up my game. I think we can make my car a little better. I can be a little better after watching my video and hopefully qualify up front for the 200 lapper.”
