Haeden Plybon Claims Second Leonard Evans Memorial

That’s two Evans Memorial wins in three years for the 55

Haeden Plybon overcame a rough start to his Northwest Super Late Model Series season on Saturday night with a victory in the Leonard Evans Memorial 150 at the Wenatchee Valley Super-Oval in Washington State.

Plybon got that bounce back performance and more with a victory after setting fast time and having led the most laps. It was his second win in the Leonard Evans Memorial in the past three years, besting Kole Raz and defending winner Evan Goetz.

A redraw of the fastest eight qualifiers placed Max Schroeder on the pole alongside Jason O’Neil with Plybon starting sixth. Schroeder never led a lap, as O’Neil got the jump with Goetz and Plybon following in the outside line.

Plybon was second by Lap 18 and leading the field by Lap 20.

Raz went from eighth to fourth by Lap 25, getting around O’Neil himself before Lap 40, with Halverson following directly behind.

There was competition caution on Lap 60 that allowed Goetz to retake the lead on the reset with the pair trading the top spot a couple of times throughout the second half.

The final 10 laps found Plybon with a comfortable lead as Goetz engaged with Raz in the battle for second. At the checkered, Plybon crossed the line $5,000 richer, with Raz able to hold off Goetz for the runner-up position. Jan Evans would charge from 16th to 4th and Jason O’Neil won the battle for the final top-five position.

Garrett Evans finished sixth followed by Halverson, Zach Riehl, Schroeder, and Doni Wanat. 16 of 20 starters saw the checkered flag wave.
