MYRTLE BEACH, SC — Matt Craig dominated the event but it was Raphael Lessard who came away with the win in a wild race at Myrtle Beach on Saturday night.

Lessard made the pass for the lead with nine laps to go and checked out, but had to survive a late race caution with three laps to go to score the win.  He would survive the restart, holding off Gus Dean, Dalton Sargeant, Matt Craig and Tyler Ankrum to score the win.

“The car was very good,” Lessard said.  “My crew chief told me what to do, save my tire and everything and I did it right so it paid off at the end because we ended up in victory lane.  We are very happy.”

Lessard’s main championship rival, Brandon Setzer, was penalized for intentionally drawing a caution flag late in the race, resulting in a last place finish.  That allowed Lessard to open up his lead in the CARS Super Late Model championship standings.

“It was a good night for us,” Lessard said.  “We are going to race every race and try to win.  If we win, the points are going to come.  I think it will be good if we can get another win at the end of this season.”

Gus Dean finished second in the race while Dalton Sargeant, Matt Craig and Tyler Ankrum rounded out the top-five.  The race was vintage Myrtle Beach racing with much of the field running in a big pack as drivers worked to conserve tires.

There are two races remaining in the CARS Super Late Model Tour.  The series will head to Hickory in late October and then conclude the season at Southern National in November.
