Tim Allensworth Chasing First Victory at Carteret County in Memorial Classic

Tim Allensworth is chasing his first career Carteret County Speedway victory on Sunday at a track that has proven difficult for the veteran racer.

Allensworth, who is originally from Ohio, has won a championship at Coastal Plains Raceway Park, where he picked up a pair of victories a few weeks ago, and has scored a pair of runner-up finishes at Carteret.  This season, he has two third-place finishes at the coastal North Carolina track and has been knocking on the door of victory lane.

“It’s really going to take everything it takes to win a race,” Allensworth said.  “You’ve got have a good car, good setup, the total package, plus a little bit of luck.  We just have not had that luck yet.  We’ve had everything in line, especially this year.  We’ve got our new R&S car that we built last year during COVID.  We ran it a few times last year and we didn’t have a lot of experience with it, working kinks out of a new car.  This year, it’s really coming together.  We’re really able to build on it each week.”

Allensworth debuted his new R&S Race Cars chassis last year at Southern National Motorsports Park where he was racing towards the front of the field before wrecking when a rain shower popped up over the track.

“That really made me mad,” Allensworth recalled.  “I started on the radio asking if they would throw the caution because it was sprinkling.  We went another lap, it just went loose, and three of us went into the wall.  It was like being on ice, you couldn’t do anything.  Looking back on it, I should have pulled off, but hindsight is 20/20.  Brand new car and here we were putting a new back end on it.”

On May 8^th, Allensworth swept in a pair of twin races at Coastal Plains Raceway Park, giving him a boost in confidence.

“Anytime you get a win, it rebuilds that confidence you may have lost over all those other losses,” Allensworth explained.  “It gets you some momentum to move forward and remember that you’ve still got what it takes to win.”

In the most recent race at Carteret County Speedway, on May 15^th, Allensworth spent much of the race running second to eventual winner Jared Fryar.  Stuck on the outside line on several restarts, Allensworth tried to challenge for the lead but could never make the run and eventually surrendered the second position to Zach Lightfoot.

“This track has been very hard for us,” Allensworth stated.  “Usually, when we set our minds to something, we can go out and get a win.  This track is just very challenging being so flat.  The competitors there are very tough and the cars are all so close.  It’s very competitive and it’s hard to pass being that there’s one groove.”

The challenges Carteret County Speedway have presented the native buckeye even more special.

“It would mean a lot to win there,” Allensworth remarked.  “We’ve put a big effort forward with everything, the engine package, the car, the suspension stuff, everything that we can think of to be competitive, to compete for the win.  I was teasing that someone’s going to have to help paint my name on the wall when we win because it’s coming.  It’s just a matter of time.”

Allensworth has been racing off and on at Carteret County Speedway since 2016.  He currently sits third in points in the Solid Rock Carriers Late Model division – behind Jared Fryar, who will not compete at Carteret on Sunday, and Zach Lightfoot.
