Starting lineup for the ASA STARS opener at New Smyrna

Daniel Vining

Tristan McKee, driving for Wauters Motorsports, will lead the field to green in the ASA STARS National Super Late Model Tour season opener on Tuesday night.

The 15-year-old scored fast time in Monday time trials with a 17.734, which was just enough to best Dawson Sutton’s 17.736 in the Rackley WAR 26.

“It was phenomenal,” said McKee after his qualifying effort. “We worked on it a lot in practice. We ended up mocking at the end of practice and were not very good. There’s kind of an inconsistency with the tires here, so we were hoping we got a good set in qualifying, and obviously, we did. We turned a really good lap.

“Thanks to all the Richie Wauters guys. They brought really fast cars. I’m super thankful for all of them, everyone at Spire, Jeff Dickerson, Gunk, Blaster. It takes a crew to make all this happen.”

The fastest 22 drivers locked into the Clyde Hart Memorial with the remaining drivers that were not protected by their Platinum Agreement status or 2025 points, needing to race their way into the field via a Monday night Last Chance Race.

Kole Raz won the Last Chance Qualifier ahead of Max Reaves and Kaden Honeycutt. Also racing into the main event were Conner Jones, Hunter Wright, Nicholas Naugle and Anthony Bello. Missing the race were Derek Griffith, Brandon Lopez, Isaac Kitzmiller and RJ Braun.

The starting lineup can be found below. The race is broken into three stages, NASCAR style that pays points, and is set to go green at 7:35 p.m. It airs live on TrackTV and FloRacing as a simulcast.
