Dale Earnhardt Jr files Hampton Heat entry

It’s the first time Dale has raced at Hampton Roads

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has entered one of the biggest Late Model Stock races of the season and gets to cross off a new track for him in the process.

The Hampton Heat is the second leg of the famed Virginia Triple Crown, which begins on Saturday with the South Boston 200 at South Boston Speedway and concludes with the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway on September 28.

The inaugural running of the event came in 2008 with JR Motorsports last winning the race in 2021 with Josh Berry. The defending winner of the race is Brenden Queen of Lee Pulliam Performance.

Earnhardt most recently competed in the CARS Tour race at New River All American Speedway in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and finished 14th. He also raced in the Icebreaker at Florence Motor Speedway in February, finishing fourth behind winning teammate Carson Kvapil.

Earnhardt hopes to make a handful of other starts this season, culminating with his annual South Carolina 400 appearance in November. He also intends to race his Late Model for another decade.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.
