MARTINSVILLE, VA – Cody Kelley was fastest in qualifying on Friday night, setting himself up to lead the first of four 25 lap heat races to the green flag at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.
Kelley, who has seven wins on the season at Florence Motor Speedway, timed in with a 19.865. Lee Pulliam, who was the last qualifier, was second quickest with a 19.879. Trevor Ward was third and Riley Gentry was fourth. Those three drivers will also lead their respective heat races to the green flag.
“I can’t believe we qualified on the pole to be honest,” Kelley told Short Track Scene. “I mean, AK Performance gave me a rocket ship and it was a real hot rod tonight. I was nervous [when Lee was out] but I wasn’t because I wasn’t even expecting to at least qualify second, I was going for a top-10, so I was going to be happy either way. He’s a legend so it wasn’t going to hurt my feelings if he out-qualified me.”
Carson Loftin, Jared Fryar, Landon Pembelton, Tristan McKee, Sam Yarbrough, and Michael Bumgarnger rounded out the top-10.
