LUCAMA, NC – Matt Cox led wire-to-wire in Saturday night’s I-95 Showdown race at Southern National Motorsports Park, scoring the victory over Dylan Newsome and Bobby McCarty.

With threatening weather in the forecast throughout the week, six cars ultimately took the green flag for the race.  However, despite a passing rain shower, the entire field was able to beat Mother Nature.

Cox’s victory was his second in the I-95 Showdown, with his other coming during the Icebreaker at Florence Motor Speedway back in February.  It’s also a second consecutive URA win for Cox, who held on in a photofinish at Florence a week prior.

“We finished third, I think it was, here in March, but I didn’t have that good a car,” Cox said after the race.  “We had a lot better car tonight.  We’ve got to tweak on it a little bit better and make it.  I think, when we do that, we’ll be really good.  It was a hard race, you know.  I wish it had a little more cars, but the cars they had here were good quality cars and everybody here could win, so it does kind of judge where you stack up with good quality cars.”

Cox was nothing short of dominant.  He was fastest in practice and in qualifying.  The only challenge he faced all race was from Andrew Grady on the initial start of the race.

Dylan Newsome started in the fifth position and ultimately made his way up through the field to finish in the runner-up position over Bobby McCarty.  Thomas Beane finished fourth, while Andrew Grady and Tyler Matthews rounded out the field.

The next round of the I-95 Showdown takes place on Saturday, July 19 at Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina.

Southern National Motorsports Park crowned its 2025 track champions on Saturday night – the first URA champions.  The KONI Shocks Charger (Limited Late Model) championship was won by Hunter Brown, while Rusty Daniels won the race.  Brody Rhodes won the Legend division championship while Andrew Watson took his second consecutive Any Car championship.
