A technical bulletin was issued on Saturday morning for Late Model Stock competitors in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia concerning inconsistencies with their chassis.
Beginning on Aug. 1, weight penalties will be added to Late Model Stocks in violation of chassis guidelines so that they can keep competing through the rest of the 2021 season.
The weight penalties will be enforced at the following tracks:
- Ace Speedway
- Anderson Motor Speedway
- Caraway Speedway
- Dominion Raceway
- Florence Motor Speedway
- Greenville-Pickens Speedway
- Hickory Motor Speedway
- Kingsport Speedway
- Langley Speedway
- Motor Mile Speedway
- South Boston Speedway
- Tri-County Speedway
- Wake County Speedway
An investigation began after Peyton Sellers’ race-winning car from a 100-lap Late Model Stock event at South Boston Speedway on May 29 was thoroughly analyzed.
The victory for Sellers ended up standing but South Boston soon discovered several teams possessed similar chassis not in compliance with Section 20F – 11.2 Paragraph B. 1. b. of their rulebook.
One major issue noted was that chassis builders were offsetting the cars to gain an advantage. South Boston and other tracks are requiring teams to add 50 lbs. of weight to the right side of the car if their chassis is offset.
Teams were caught using two pieces of steel to make one piece of tubing rather than just one piece of steel, which is required. Steering boxes were also improperly angled on a handful of cars that were examined.
Chassis in violation of these rules have to add 25 lbs. of weight to the right side.
The weight adjustments are temporary before wholesale changes will be mandated ahead of 2022. Any teams found without the added weight on the right side will be disqualified.
