For the first time since the inaugural 2013 season, the Southern Super Series championship will be decided in the All-American 400 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
The season finale was scheduled for the Peach State Classic on October 23-24 at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia, but that was before track owner Jim Gresham revealed that a letter of intent to purchase the historic short track had been signed.
That placed all scheduled track leases, including the Peach State Classic, on hold. The track is expected to add to its racing schedule in 2021.
Now the Southern Super Series will decide its champion at Nashville, which is a co-sanctioned event for the SSS, CARS Tour and Champion Racing Associations. The race was originally scheduled as a non-points event for each of the touring divisions.
“The All American 400, we’re excited about going to Nashville and the Southern Super Series being a part of that,” said series operator Tim Bryant on the Speed51 Bullring radio program. “With us losing the Gresham Motorsports Park event, the championship for the Southern Super Series will now switch to the All American 400 weekend, which was originally a non-points event. We will not lose that points race for the 2020 season.
“Everything about Nashville is cool. I just can’t wait to get up there and be a part of that event.”
Daniel Hemric won the 2013 Southern Super Series championship by one point over Bubba Pollard at Nashville. Chase Elliott won the race.
Four events now remain on the Southern Super Series schedule. On September 19, teams will return to Five Flags Speedway for the final Super Late Model event at Pensacola prior to the 53rd Annual Snowball.
The following week will see the series visit Bristol Motor Speedway alongside the CRA and CARS Tour in the Pinty’s U.S. Short Track Nationals.
Last year’s season finale, the Hart to Heart 100 at New Smyrna Speedway, will follow Bristol on the schedule, with that race taking place on October 17. From there, teams will go to Nashville for the All American.
