LUCAMA, NC – Jared led wire-to-wire in Wednesday night’s Ultra Racing Association (URA) I-95 Showdown race at Southern National Motorsports Park to take the win.
Fryar qualified on the pole and never gave up the lead during the 125-lap Ultra Racing Association (URA) Late Model Stock Car race – a race which ran caution free. After the race, Fryar said it was the first time he’s ever won a race with this level of dominance.
“That was probably the first race in my career I’ve run green to checkered in 125 laps,” Fryar said. “Once I got out there, I set the pace I wanted to and just kept going and kept getting away from them. I just wanted to maintain that lead and hope a caution didn’t come out but was predicting a caution would come out around five to go. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t a sitting duck on a restart. Luckily, it didn’t come out. Things worked out perfect for us.”
While the action was from second on back, Fryar had plenty of fun out front.
“I expected some people to come and go but I guess our car was so good, it stayed digging the whole time,” Fryar continued. “It was really good and I was able to do everything I wanted to with it. It was nerve-wracking though. After halfway, I was just taking care of it as best I could.”
Doug Barnes, Jr. methodically raced his way to the runner-up finish.
“I was saving in the beginning and then, you know, when I started rolling and the race had a green flag look, I knew I needed to take what I could get,” Barnes said. “I was just taking what the car would give me and the car was taking a lot more than everybody else’s car. I didn’t feel like I was wearing anything out. I just ran out of laps. When he had clean track and I had clean track, we were two-tenths better but damn lapped cars wouldn’t get out of the way.”
Matt Cox, who won the first round of the I-95 Showdown in the Icebreaker at Florence Motor Speedway in February, finished third.
“We had a pretty good racecar tonight,” Cox stated. “We haven’t been here in a long time, didn’t have a lot of notes. We missed it a little bit in the race. We were good, not terrible. Wish we could have made some small adjustments before the race in hindsight but it’s a good night for night one. It’s in one piece and we’ll tweak on it and try to get a little better the next couple nights.”
Andrew Grady finished fourth while Tyler Matthews rounded out the top-five.
