New Smyrna Speedway has postponed the Clyde Hart Memorial 100 Super Late Model event following an increase in COVID-19 cases across the state of Florida and Volusia County.

The event was scheduled for July 4 and has been a mainstay in recent seasons while paired with the NASCAR Cup Series Firecracker 400 weekend.

Due to the postponement, the race is once again scheduled to take place before the Cup Series – Xfinity Series doubleheader on August 27.

The track released the following statement on Monday afternoon.

“Due to the substantial rise of positive COVID-19 cases here in Florida, we can’t in good conscience ask drivers to travel from throughout the Southeast to come to our speedway. We have done everything we can to keep our drivers and fans safe and we view this move as a continuation of our efforts to ensure the racing season continues as safely as possible. We are disappointed to have to do this as we were looking forward to a great weekend of racing.”

With that said, local divisions will still race on Saturday at the venerable half mile.

The Florida Department of Health announced nearly 9,000 new cases on Friday, giving it a new high for a 19th consecutive day. Volusia County is expected to hit 2,000 cases of the novel coronavirus this week with local officials mandating masks at all public facilities over the weekend.

Jeff Choquette has won the past three iterations of the Clyde Hart 100. Wayne Anderson leads the all-time list with five.
