Bowman Gray Sportsman penalties expected after inspection

Following the Sportsman division race at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night, the top three drivers (Zack Clifton, Chase Robertson and Sterling Plemons) had their cars subject to a thorough inspection process.

Track officials took the top three’s right rear tires to check for tire soak. They also wanted the top three to pull their oil pans, but only Robertson complied, and was found in compliance in that particular area.

Around 2 a.m., officials and teams objected to how long the entire ordeal was taking and wanted to go home. Teams were more or less told ‘you will hear something the first of the week.’

The general consensus from drivers in the division, including those in the top-three, is that tire soaking is fairly common and has never been enforced. In fact, it’s part of the cost-appeal of racing at Bowman Gray Stadium because a set or two of tires can last the entire season.

Generally, track penalties come out by Tuesday afternoon, and the talk around the pit area is that there could be penalties in the range of 50-100 points handed out from Saturday night.

It’s about time B.G. started enforcing rules. Its the only way to keep people honest. Problem is they have the most open rule book of any Nascar sanctioned track.
