Bobby Labonte wins SMART Tour slugfest at Caraway

The Revolutionary 99, which was 99 laps around Caraway Speedway, took two hours and seven minutes to complete.

It was that kind of race and it ultimately rewarded noted marathon man Bobby Labonte with the victory in the SMART Modified Tour race on Saturday night.

Labonte earned his second career win in the series by holding off Danny Bohn and Brandon Ward in a green-white-checkered finish.

“Just stick it out I guess,” Labonte said. “… It’s been a few races since I’ve been back. That was pretty exciting at the end. A lot of shit going on, but that’s about it.”

Labonte took the lead from Jimmy Blewett on a restart with three laps remaining. Blewett was trying to defending Ryan Newman on the outside and Labonte tried to fill the gap. Labonte made contact with Blewett, who hit Newman, resulting in a multi-car melee.

“I was on the curb,” Labonte said. “There was two on the outside of me and I got hit down the back straightaway. I’m going pretty straight and I’m as low as I can go. Caution came out.”
