Keith Rocco may have come up short in Friday night’s SK Modified feature at Stafford Motor Speedway, but the runner-up finish he earned gives him faith there is more success ahead in the coming weeks.
“We’re getting back in our rhythm here,” Rocco said. “Last week we finished fourth, and tonight we’re second, so we’re close to getting back to victory lane here.”
Rocco slugged it out with Eric Berndt over the last 25 laps. He briefly passed Berndt for the lead after the midway point, but Berndt went right back by him a couple of laps later. Rocco was unable to re-pass him.
“It was funny,” Rocco said. “Once I got by him I thought I had a car that was capable of just staying in front of him. I didn’t think he’d get me back.”
It was a rather eventful race for “Kid Rock.” After starting ninth, Rocco sliced through the trouble in the field early on, avoiding a massive pileup on the frontstretch on lap eight before driving to the front of the field.
“The cream always rises to the top,” he said. “Guys that are starting up front are fast enough to stay up there. It’s tough to get up there, and it’s tough to battle with them and get to the front. Once everything shook out, we were able to get to the front and battle for the win.”
It’s been a pretty successful year for Keith Rocco so far, and it appears there may be more trips to Stafford’s victory lane coming in the near-future.
