Gary Klutt on pole for 2019 NASCAR Pinty’s opener at Mosport

It was said during pre-season testing that the new General Tires build up grip quicker and are much faster out on track. Gary Klutt confirmed that theory.

The 26-year-old from Halton Hills, Ontario set a lap time of 1 minute 21.962 seconds (108.006mph) to claim his third career E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award. Klutt’s No.59 Trailcon Leasing Dodge smashed the track record of 1.22.521 set back in 2017 by Sunday’s second place starter Kevin Lacroix.

“If feels so good,” Klutt said. “My dad went faster than he ever did in the section before and I said, “holy cow, I can’t let him beat me.’ We don’t have a lot of sponsorship but we’re making the most of what we have and will build on it.”

Lacroix set a time of 1:22.153 (107.755) and will look for his fourth career CTMP victory. Third place will be owned by Alex Tagliani. The most recent CTMP winner circled the 2.459 mile road course with a time of 1:22.240 (107.641).

Fourth place starter Marc-Antoine Camirand was the last driver to break the previous track record in this session, he will be followed by Andrew Ranger to complete the top five.

Pete Klutt and defending Series Champ LP Dumoulin will role of sixth and seventh, respectively.

2017 Champ Alex Labbe, Jason Hathaway and D.J Kennington round out the top ten starters.

Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Riley Herbst will roll of the grid 15th.
