Ron Silk proved that last week’s Whelen Modified Tour victory at South Boston was no fluke.
Silk backed his first win in three years up with a second-place finish in Sunday’s Icebreaker 150, running well all race long.
To Silk, second was the highest position he felt the team could’ve finished. During the final two-lap sprint to the checkers, Silk just didn’t have anything to contend with winner Justin Bonsignore.
“[Bonsignore and Coby] were the best two cars all weekend,” Silk said. “I think [Bonsignore] would just get out a few car-lengths and kind of mind the gap and not use too much of what he had left in case there were some late-race cautions… Otherwise, I felt we were just as good as any of the top runners.”
The goal for Silk and the No. 85 team is to run the full Tour schedule, something Silk has only done once in the previous four seasons combined. That will only be achieved if the team continues to perform strongly at each race, Silk said.
“The plan is to do well and run full-time,” he said. “So if we get to a point where we’re struggling and we need to regroup, we might shake it off, doing that. I would say we’re doing pretty well right now. I don’t see why we can’t keep it going.”
Ron Silk will try to keep things going in three weeks at the Spring Sizzler at Stafford.
