Ronnie Williams $20,000 richer this week after winning Stafford SK5K

Make that $20,000 in six days for Ronnie Williams

Stafford Motor Speedway

Ronnie Williams has become a force of nature in New England Modified racing during the month of June.

More specifically, during the final week of June.

Following a victory on Sunday in the Valenti Modified Series and another victory on Wednesday night in the Tri-Track Modified Racing Series on Wednesday, Williams added to both his resume and his bank account with a victory in the SK5K at Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday night.

With an additional $5,000, Williams has now earned $20,000 in six days, not too bad for a series of open races and an SK race at Stafford.

As far as the record books are concerned, Williams also became the first repeat winner in the six-year history of the event and it was the third-straight win for car owner Adam Skowyra, who captured this event in 2017 with Chase Dowling.

It wasn’t easy, however.

Williams had to outduel Keith Rocco, just barely beating him to the finish line at the end of a 23-lap green flag run to the finish. Rocco led off the restart as Williams began to battle with Dowling with 20 to go.

Williams got to Rocco’s back bumper with 13 laps remaining and sealed the deal with a three-lap side-by-side duel that was only decided by inches.

That doesn’t even include Williams having to pit due to a flat tire following his inclusion in the lap 41 crash that ultimately involved at least 10 other competitors.

in the middle stages of the race. He earned it with a lot of help from a good team.

“I was trying to take it easy in the beginning and we just got caught up in a wreck coming out of [turn] four,” Williams said. “We had [two flat tires], the [steering rack] was all messed up. It just shows how good these guys are.”

Rocco is pretty good too, and just ran out of time to hold off the hard-charging Williams.

“We probably just needed to ride a little bit more in the beginning and save a little bit of tire,” he said. “We were really good, we had good drive, but the right front got used up. … I think I’m the king of second in this race. Two years in a row I’m second to Ronnie. It was a good race, good battle, good show for the fans. He did a good job.”

As for his accomplishments this week, Williams isn’t going to puff his chest out because he says he knows how fleeting such moments can be. He just wants to keep working to keep the momentum rolling throughout the summer.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Williams said. “You take it one race at a time. You don’t take anything for granted. Things can fall apart real quick so we’re going to ride this as long as we can. Hopefully we can keep this going. It’s great momentum. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
