Bubba Pollard added yet another page to his resume with a $10,000-to-win CARS Tour Super Late Model victory on Saturday night at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, North Carolina.

It was yet another statement victory from Pollard, who is most known for his success in the Southeast, but once again traveled to unfamiliar territory to win his first race at the 4/10-mile track in just his second career start.

But it wasn’t without some drama as Pollard was forced to fend off challenges from both Mason Diaz and Preston Peltier in the closing laps of the race.

With 10 laps to go, Diaz closed to the back bumper of Pollard in lap traffic, but their inevitable contact allowed third-place Preston Peltier to close in on both leaders.

Three laps later, Diaz got loose entering Turn 3 and spun around when Peltier had nowhere to go but into the 18-year-old son of the Southern National track operator. The resulting caution set up a seven-lap showdown between Pollard and Peltier.

Peltier took several fair shots at Pollard’s rear bumper but was unable to move him off the bottom of the track.

That allowed Pollard to cross start-finish $10,000 richer.

“We just had a little too much motor tonight and it cost us there late in the race,” Pollard said. “It made me free in and it’s hard to win races when you’re free in and tight in the center, so I had to race more conservatively.

“Where it did help us on restarts with the drive off. Good race at the end. That’s what it’s about, close racing at the end.”

Peltier, on the other hand, believes he left a little too much on the figurative table.

“I think we had the best car here,” Peltier said. “You take the restarts out of the equation and this thing was just badass.  Man, I did everything I could trying to get by Bubba. He’s a real smart racer. He knows how to hold me up with a little bit slower car. It’s so hard to pass here.”

Pollard, Peltier and Matt Wallace were the only three leaders of the race throughout the 150-lap duration.

Pollard has enjoyed a solid start to his 2019 season, winning the World Series of Asphalt Super Late Model championship at New Smyrna Speedway in February and the $10,000-to-win Solid Rock 300 at Southern National. His next two starts will come next weekend at the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway and the $30,000-to-win Old State Nationals at Orange County Speedway in a FatHead Racing Late Model Stock.
