Stacy Puryear and Tommy Lemons Jr. will make up the front row in Saturday night’s ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway.
The rest of the field will be decided on Saturday afternoon during the heat races and last chance feature. Puryear qualified on the outside front row last year but improved by one position with a best lap of 20.100 seconds. Puryear and Lemons are the only drivers locked into the 200-lap main event.
Lemons said a new rule in 2018 gives teams the flexibility of when to use the set of four tires they get for the race, and means starting on the front row is more important than ever.
Newly-crowned five-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion Philip Morris, three-time Martinsville winner Lee Pulliam, defending CARS Tour champion Josh Berry and Brandon Pierce will all start on the pole of their heat races.
Mike Darne, Lee Pulliam, Layne Riggs, Ryan Millington and Dexter Canipe Jr. will round out the top-10.
Nelson Motorsports drivers Todd Gilliland, Bobby McCarty and Matt Bowling for disqualified on camber and will start at the rear of the respective heats.
Heat races for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 will get underway at 3 p.m. The main event, which will be broadcast live on FansChoice.TV and MRN Radio, will get underway at 8 p.m.
Fan gates open at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the driver autograph session schedule for 1-2:30 p.m. on the frontstretch.
