Carson Hocevar posted the fastest lap in qualifying for the 200-lap Canadian Short Track Nationals, establishing a track record for the inaugural Pro Late Model spectacular at Jukasa Motor Speedway in Hagersville, Ontario, Canada.

The event used a group time trials qualifying format and saw Derek Ramstrom hold the provisional pole until Bubba Pollard took over with an 18.440. Pollard held on to the spot until several expected contender went out in the final group.

Ultimately, it was Hocevar, the youngest driver on the track, who claimed the top spot with a 18.166.

“It’s pretty good, this place is pretty flat.” Hocevar said after the session. “We tested here and were pretty fast from the start. This place is fast and pretty slick.

“I really think we have a good chance to win the race.”

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship contender Noah Gragson is helping Hocevar and teammate Raphael Lessard at Jukasa.

Gragson received considerable cheers from the crowd for saying he was enjoying the experience and hoped to come back next year.

The reigning Oxford 250 winner Bubba Pollard came into the weekend as the expected favorite but only qualified sixth. However, he feels like he’s exactly where he should be.

“I think it’s the perfect qualifying spot, honestly.” Pollard said. “200 laps makes for a long race and it all depends on how it plays out.

Pollard, who did not test at Jukasa, said practice was a struggle. “We made some changes,” Pollard said. “It was much better for qualifying.”

The first 30 quickest made the race, the remaining 14 will compete in a last chance race.
