Justin Bonsignore’s dream season just keeps on rolling.
For the fourth time in 2018, he will lead the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour field to the green flag after winning the pole in qualifying. The Holtsville, New York, driver scored his ninth career pole, fourth of the season and third at Bristol in qualifying for the Bush’s Beans 150.
Bonsignore’s lap of 14.876 seconds (128.986 mph) around the 0.533-mile oval will place him at the top of the field for the 11th race of the season. He is inching closer to his first championship with a 58-point lead entering the race, but a strong run at ‘Thunder Valley’ could be crucial for his title hopes.
“It’s awesome, we went a long time without poles, and now we have four,” Bonsignore said of the season so far. “It’s a good testament to the team. This is only part one of it, though. We have to go out and execute a good, clean, smooth race.”
Patrick Emerling, who posted the fastest lap in practice earlier, qualified second with a lap of 14.942 seconds (128.417 mph). Timmy Solomito placed his No. 16 Starrett Tools Racing Ford third in qualifying with a time of 15.027 seconds.
Chase Dowling was fourth, while five-time champion Doug Coby, who is looking for his first Bristol victory, rounded out the top five. Eric Goodale was sixth, followed by Rob Summers, Ronnie Williams, Burt Myers and Rowan Pennink.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for the Bush’s Beans 150, the 11th points race of the season, at 6:05 p.m. The complete starting lineup can be viewed below.
