Awesome Chris Dilbeck from Hampton honors Bill Elliott in Throwback 276

Grafix Unlimited

Chris Dilbeck has decided to be awesome this weekend for the CARS Tour Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

A Georgia native, Dilbeck will honor one of his home state’s greatest exports during the Super Late Model portion of the event when he carries the colors of NASCAR Hall of Famer and 1988 Winston Cup Series champion Bill Elliott for the second-ever CARS Tour retro race.

The No. 9 Dilbeck selected is from Elliott’s 1985 campaign, in which he won 11 races and the Winston Million bonus awarded to any driver who won three of the four crown jewels on the NASCAR Cup schedule.

He accomplished the fete the first year it was made available by winning the Daytona 500, Talladega 500 and the Southern 500.

“Growing up in the late 80’s and early 90’s, Bill was doing really well in NASCAR,” Dilbeck said. “That red and white No. 9 car with gold wheels was iconic and always fast. His success is what drew my family to the sport because of the connection to Georgia and I thinks it’s really cool to be able to pay tribute to that home state connection at Hickory for the Throwback 276 race.”

The car will carry sponsorship from Performance Friction Brakes, where Dilbeck works as a sales manager. The scheme was designed by Grafix Unlimited and Bradley McCaskill.

Dilbeck won the most recent CARS Tour Super Late Model race at Hickory in May.
