Defending winner Bubba Pollard enters Slinger Nationals

Matthew Bishop | STS

Bubba Pollard will defend his Slinger Nationals crown.

Arguably the face of Super Late Model racing in the United States, Pollard has filed an entry in the attempt to go back-to-back in the prestigious Wisconsin race on Tuesday night, July 10. Pollard has earned six victories so far this season, covering six states and just as many sanctioning bodies.

“I’ve got a great group of guys and we continue to chase the big shows, trying to take home the big check and the shiny trophy,” Pollard said.

After struggling in his 2016 track debut, Pollard returned a year later and took top honors despite a run-in and spin with Ty Majeski that ended with the NASCAR prospect ‘tapping out’ and giving Pollard his position back.

Pollard is also a winner of the All-American 400, World Crown 300, Winter Showdown and Money in the Bank 150. Pollard knows a big show when he sees it.

“The fans at Slinger Speedway were just awesome last year,” Pollard said. “With the history of that track and that event, it’s a no-brainer to come back and defend my title.”

Bubba Pollard will have plenty of nationally ranked Super Late Model challenging his crown.  Reigning Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year Erik Jones has already declared his intent to compete in pursuit of his first Slinger Nationals check.

Former NASCAR Truck Series champion, and current point leader, Johnny Sauter will be in search of his first Slinger Nationals crown in addition to Majeski.

ARCA Racing Series rookie, Natalie Decker is expected to return to her home state and challenge for the Nationals win as is Chase Purdy.  Purdy is a member of the 2018 NASCAR Next class while currently competing full-time on the ARCA Racing Series.  Derek Kraus, yet another current NASCAR Next class member, and reigning Rookie of the Year in the K&N Pro Series West, is also expected to return to his formative discipline.

Florida’s Steve Dorer, a former Red Bud 300 winner and previous top-five finisher at the Slinger Nationals is also entered.

Late Models will also compete in a full race program on July 10.  A Wednesday night, July 11 rain date has been established.
