JR Motorsports ride leads to Orange County win for Deac McCaskill

CARS Tour

With Josh Berry set to make his ARCA debut this weekend at The Salem Speedway in Indiana, Deac McCaskill was given the call to drive for JR Motorsports and he parked the iconic No. 88 right in Victory Lane.

Brandon Pierce set a new Orange County Speedway track record in qualifying, but McCaskill immediately took the lead on the first lap and never relented — leading a majority of the laps and scoring his first CARS Tour victory of the season.

Despite a number of cautions giving a chance to the likes of Lee Pulliam, Bobby McCarty and Brandon Pierce, only Pulliam was able to overtake McCaskill briefly on a Lap 40 restart.

Pulliam’s reign only lasted 13 laps, as McCaskill got back by, and it was curtains from there, as the 2016 champion learned from his mistake and rode it out to a win.

“I was praying, I thought Lee (Pulliam) had the better car, I thought he was riding and saving tires until that competition caution and like a dummy I gave him the top on the restart,” McCaskill remarked post-race. “He got out front and I just thought it was over with, but his car really wasn’t that good, I got to moving around and got by him there and started taking the top on the restarts.”

McCaskill, who also won the last time the CARS Tour came to Orange County, became the first driver in series history to earn repeat victories at the Rougemont, North Carolina track.
