Date Set for 2018 Martinsville Late Model Stock race

Matt Weaver | STS

The 2018 ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway will be held on Saturday, September 29. The race – the biggest, richest and most prestigious NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race in the country – will once again be held under the Speedway’s LED lights.

Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said that making sure the date works for weekly tracks across the country is an important factor each year.

“These teams and drivers race hard every week at their local track and we want to support their efforts to win a track, state or national championship,” Campbell said. “Holding the race on September 29 allows teams to wrap up the season at their local track before coming to Martinsville for the biggest race of them all.”

In 2017, Timothy Peters took home the $25,000 prize and the grandfather clock trophy after a thrilling race with former National Champion Peyton Sellers and the reigning National Champion, Lee Pulliam.

The race also marked the Speedway’s first event under its new LED lighting system.

“This was special. This was history,” Peters said, referring to the first race under the lights”

“I think (the lights) made a better race for the fans,” Sellers said. “They were able to see the smoke, the sparks flying off the cars. It just made it better for the fans.”

The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 regularly sees more than 80 Late Model Stock Car teams from around the country try to make the 40 car field.

Information about the weekend schedule and tickets to the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 will be available in the coming weeks.
