Even though it has only just started, the new combination of Craig Lutz and Jeff Goodale seems to be paying off.
Lutz, behind the wheel of the No. 46 Riverhead Building Supply Chevrolet, scored his first career Coors Light Pole award on Friday night in advance of the Stafford 150 at Stafford Motor Speedway. His fast time of 18.345 seconds around the half-mile Stafford oval was just good enough to put him on the top spot.
Just behind Lutz, a bid for a seventh straight Stafford pole came up just short for Doug Coby. The four-time series champion posted the second fastest time of 18.365 seconds behind the wheel of his Mayhew Tools No. 2 and will roll off to the outside of the front row in the Stafford 150 on Friday night. Ryan Preece, who won the Spring Sizzler at Stafford on April 30, posted a third place effort behind the wheel of his Simoniz Wax No. 6. Preece’s fast time was 18.400 seconds.
Brendon Bock was fourth in the qualifying session, while Shawn Solomito drove a family-owned No. 66 to a fifth place starting spot. Six through 10 were Jon McKennedy, Max Zachem, Justin Bonsignore, Ronnie Williams and Todd Szegedy.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will run the Stafford 150 on Friday night, with the green flag scheduled to fly just after 9 p.m. ET.
