Short Track on TV this Weekend

For short track fans in need of a fix this weekend, there are no shortage of events to be consumed with numerous events across the country providing a live broadcast.

The marquee events to watch are the Southern Super Series at Five Flags Speedway and the CRA Super Series race at Kil-Kare Speedway. But weekly shows at Langley Speedway and Berlin Raceway are also easily accessible.

Here’s a short list of short track racing streams for Friday July 28 and Saturday, July 29.

Friday: Southern Super Series at Pensacola Five Flags Speedway

The ninth race of the Southern Super Series season is headlined by a dandy of a championship battle.

Chandler Smith and Stephen Nasse are tied with 330 points but Garrett Jones and Kyle Plott are 19 and 18 points back respectively. That’s a legitimate wide-open four-driver battle for the fourth Southern Super Series championship.

But one-offs including reigning Snowball Derby champion Christian Eckes, two-time winner Augie Grill and 2015 SSS champion Bubba Pollard have filed an entry and are expected to contend for the win on Friday night.

Saturday: Langley Speedway NASCAR Weekly Racing

One week after a widely successful Hampton Heat, NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing returns to Langley Speedway for Speed Club Center Night. The card includes 66 laps for the Late Model Stocks and features for Super Streets, Super Trucks, UCARS and Winged Karts. Matt Waltz leads the track LMSC standings by eight points over Greg Edwards but Nick Smith, Connor Hall and Mark Wertz each have been weekly contenders.

Sunday: CRA Super Series at Kil-Kare Speedway

The race to the Chase heats up as CRA regulars Hunter Jack, Josh Brock and Johnny Van Doorn are expected to hold off one-offs like two-time champion Travis Braden, Eddie Van Meter and Brian Campbell. There are just three more races left until the inaugural playoffs begin at the Battle at Berlin so the battle to get in could be interesting.
