Ty Majeski extends World Series title lead with Race 4 Victory

Ty Majeski extended his championship lead on Wednesday night in the World Series of Asphalt, leading wire-to-wire to win the fourth Super Late Model race of Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway.

Makeski started the race on the outside pole and quickly took the lead from Steven Wallace exiting Turn 2. Harrision Burton started third and also got around Wallace by the second lap and that’s the way they ran for the entirety of the 35-lap feature.

Burton got under the back bumper of the Majeski No. 91 on three different occasions but could never clear him. At best, Burton ran side-by-side with Majeski for five straight circuits from Lap 13-to-18 but was ultimately unable to complete the pass.

Given that Burton out-dueled Majeski on Tuesday night, the two-time and defending ARCA Midwest Tour champion actually though he was destined to run second once the Burton got under him.

“I thought he was going to get me,” Majeski said in Victory Lane. “His car was better than mine last night and we went too far on the adjustment from last night to tonight and were too free tonight.

“So i thought he was going to get me. But we held him down on the bottom, and I respect the heck out of him as a race car driver because he could have wrecked both of us, but he raced me clean and we had a good clean battle for the win.”

Burton shared Majeski’s passion for their clean and dramatic race, even if he had to settle for second.

“It was just a clean hard race, and it’s a lot of fun to race guys like that,” Burton said. “Some guys don’t enjoy racing like that, especially when they get beat, but this was a lot of fun. Ty is a really tough guy to beat and that’s a sign of how you have to keep evolving as a team.

“Last night, we were the class of the field and tonight he was.”

With the victory, Majeski extends his championship lead over Steven Wallace (official mmargin will be published as soon as it becomes availiable) and he’s already starting to think about what it will take to score his first Speedweeks title.

“Somewhat,” Majeski said. “We have to go on the attack and keep trying to win but when it comes down to it, we’re not going to take any chances.”

Wallace finished third and found himself fairly content after finishing 11th on Tuesday in his backup car.

“I am satisfied with third place,” Wallace said. “We won the first race, second the second night, broke the throttle pedal and didn’t figure it out until this morning, so we had to run our back-up car last night and finished 11th.

“So we’re satisfied with third.”
